My Quest For No - No Follows: Pownce
If you are new to the site, sign up for the RSS Feed. All new sign ups get punch and pieRSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Ever since the no follow tag was created there has been a constant debate over whether or not it actually works. I am going to have to say it does, or at least weakens the link. So, with so many sites using no follows, blogs, forums, comments, etc… it’s now becoming harder and harder to get a clean link. This has led me on a search for no follow free sites.
I personally don’t like using a site just for links, minus a directory where that is what it is for. I’d rather obtain the link naturally and get the most out of it. One of the first sites was discovered with the help of Snoop Bloggy Blog. We found that on the site Pownce all links sent to friends or public had clean links.
We were already using the site for personal use, so like I said before it was great to get a link out of something that we’d use no matter what.
I know that multiple links from unique domains is much better than a 1k links from one domain but I’ll still take that 1k. The reason I say this is currently I have 1683 friends on pownce (you can be my friend too I am better than you pownce). So every time I send a message I have the potential to get 1683 links from pownce. Many pownce users have less than 30 friends so my comments have a good chance of being cached.
The best part of this all is, you will get natural traffic from your friends and links to boot. I dont think you can argue that.
If you need a pownce account, leave a comment and I’ll send you an invite. Have fun powncing…

As long as posts are interesting and generally informative using social networking sites like Pownce for clean links is great. Of course, since it’s not a captive audience you can’t be spammy about your posts or folks will drop you from their list.

I’d like an invite please.
An interesting thing, Wordpress automatically adds no follow to your comments’ links. I use a plug in to correct it since I

I applied the DoFollow WordPress plug-in to change it. (Personally I think it’s goofy to have to apply a plug-in to change it). The upside is that I’m giving those that comment a good link, which I’m happy to do. The downside was that spam bots were slamming my site. I already had Akismet installed, but it’s not perfect and it was getting pretty unwieldy to catch the traffic. I applied a second plug-in the “Simple Trackback Validation” filter and things have calmed down a bit on the spam front, so I’m fairly happy now.
