So you are new to SEO, and want to make your website easier to find on the major search engines… What should you do first? Today we will go over some basics of on page SEO. There is plenty more you can do to refine your web pages but this is the basics, nothing more nothing less.

Pick your key words: No matter what site you have, there is a key word that describes what exactly you do. A key word is a word or group of words that you want the search engines to associate you with. You could have a site about dog grooming where dog grooming is your key word. To often people create new websites with the idea of making money but they tend to go from point A (the idea) to point C (the Profit). Point B is the most important part, even the greatest idea will not succeed with out something in the middle. For search people this is the keyword.

On page SEO: Once you have decided on the key words that best describe your site, you now have to tell the search engines. If your word is dog grooming, the easiest way is to  do this is to make sure the word dog grooming is in your content. This can be done in a variety of ways.

First generate good copy. You can hire copy writers or if you are proficient writer you can do this your self. The key here is to work the word into the content. Just having the word dog grooming over and over again wont help you, you need to work this in naturally. It really wont be that hard if your site is formulated correctly.

Secondly create proper page titles and descriptions. Every web page has title tags, keyword and description tags. When writing your tags make sure that the key word that is most prevalent on your page also resides in these tags. Here is an example:

<title>Dog Grooming - Because your dog deserves the best</title>

<meta name=”description” content=”Arizona’s top dog grooming company. Pamper your dog with the nations number one dog grooming company” />

<meta name=”keywords” content=”Dog Grooming, Animal Care, Dog Hair Cuts, Animal baths”/>

Depending on your keywords, these simple changes can and will effect your overall search rankings. No matter what you are doing, you should always think about how can I get the search engines to find me. After all if no one can find your site it doesn’t matter how great it is.
