I’ve been doing this for years in XP as a quick way to restart.
It’s good for those times when you make a configuration change and need to reboot for that change to take effect.
Just end the explorer.exe process, then restart it as a new task. MUCH faster than a complete restart.

Never thought of it as a prank but now that you mention it, it would really freak out some people.

The description says that you will be able to hide your task bar, but they didn’t go over that in the video. I tried going into taskbar properties and pressing hide there, but when i did this to my sister she found that and could use the taskbar right away. That isn’t really what I was aiming for.

Did something similar to this to my Mom, where I just shoved the icons in the recycle bin, and hid the recycle bin. It kinda sucked, she emptied the recycle bin, and all my icons went bye bye.

yeah.. but that just isn’t as cool… #1

and #2 – you don’t need to enter your password.

Plus, if your password is compromised its still secure… (through obscurity)

Another extension of this prank would be to put this batch file in the all users startup folder – or even as a reg run entry.
Make em boot to safe mode!! Muhahaha…

…or this can be a nice way of locking your station.
create a batch file with the following:

@echo off
taskkill /im explorer.exe /f

then create a shortcut to it and assign a handy keyboard shortcut like ‘ctrl + alt + k’ and voila!!

Fun stuff…
