When you build that ultimate computer there is one component you really should be thinking about, RAM. Random Access Memory. Now if your me you want as much as you can get, after all more is better right? Well it all really depends on what operating system you are using.
What some beginner computer builders dont know is that Windows only supports a certain amount of ram. So if you had 20 gigs of ram, on some versions of windows you could only use up to 2 gigs of that ram. So what you need is the break down. How much can you use with what you are using. It’s that simple…
Here is the Break Down.
- 32-bit versions of Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate: 4GB
- 32-bit Windows Vista Starter: 1GB
- 64-bit versions of Windows Vista Home Basic: 8GB
- 64-bit versions of Windows Vista Home Premium: 16GB
- 64-bit versions of Windows Vista Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate: 128GB
So when you build your next computer or upgrade your current keep this in mind.

Unbelievable… at least for the Vista Starter Version. Take an OS which eats memory incessantly and further limit it by retarding RAM support.
Hmm… and they wonder why Vista is failing???
Do we need more reasons????
Also, for the record, the limits imposed on the other versions of Vista listed is due to the limited addressable range of 32-bit based systems - not the OS. So, that at least we can’t slap Vista for…

Yeah, uh…you won’t be able to use more than 3.2 Gigs of ram in any 32bit version of Vista.

Are we talking RAM or disk space?
Who has more than 4gig of RAM on their home PC? 8,16, 128 gig?
Am I missing something here?

baracuda, plenty of people. 2 gigs is the minimum for most video games these days. If you are running a home business or doing anything graphically you always want more.
