If you use a computer (yes even a Mac) you get error messages. Some of these error messages can be more frustrating than helpful, but every once and awhile they are just damn funny.

    What other things can you take entirely from a site found via stumbleupon?

  2. Television Sanity January 10th, 2008 at 6:30 pm

    That last one looks fake. When would it ever check your serial and match it against other users using that serial? Maybe during validation – but in that case it would just say – “That cd key is being used” or “Invalid CD Key” – it doesn’t actually mention how many users are using the cd key right down to the 1,002,931st user.

    Perhaps I’m wrong but that last error seems really fake.

    The Dreamweaver one is the only real funny one, but they’re all pretty good.

  4. silicontrip January 10th, 2008 at 7:09 pm

    Cannot delete file, not enough free space, please delete one or more files and try again.

  5. eatchex89 January 10th, 2008 at 7:14 pm

    the last one is a fake. Not only is the font size (and possibly font) totally different from the normal font, but illegal was spelled “illigal”. Microsoft’s error messages don’t misspell “illegal”.

  6. Sid January 10th, 2008 at 7:14 pm

    One of my favorite errors from removing a USB printer on a Windows Server that was causing errors: “Printer cannot be removed. The printer is out of paper”

    Funny thing is that it had paper in it.

    Thanks for sharing these!

    I got this very funny error, while trying to open a help file that was compiled using WinHelp32.exe (which seems to be unsupported in Vista):

    http://atzeundpeng.serendipia.net/uploads/vista-help.jpg

    (this is in german, but you can easily reproduce it)

  24. Matt January 11th, 2008 at 1:07 am

    You guys don’t realise that the point of messages like “No keyboard detected, press F1 to continue” and “No mouse detected, click to continue” is to force you to connect the relevant device do you?

  25. Streetwise January 11th, 2008 at 1:41 am

    LOL these are funny. Can’t wait to try them out!

  26. Daemon January 11th, 2008 at 2:29 am

    Most of this errors are not WINDOWS errors, rather they are errors of other software. And among those which are Windows errors, most of them are either fake, or completely normal.

    Example: make shortcut to Recycle Bin, remove “Shortcut to:” from name, delete that shortcut, and you get that message. There is not error in that …

  27. dingdong January 11th, 2008 at 3:16 am

    most of those are application errors, that has nothing to do with windows…

  28. hellclanner January 11th, 2008 at 4:25 am

    To be frank, these errors are problem by the programmers, not Windows. the last one is an edited one.

    but they are funny hahas xD

  29. Renato January 11th, 2008 at 7:05 am

    the catastrophic one is the best!

  30. Adamm January 11th, 2008 at 7:36 am

    I think the Best One, I get often… that This is missing, is the
    >>empty Recycle Bin…
    ” ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DELETE “windows”?”

  31. ParoX January 11th, 2008 at 7:45 am

    The NET_SEND: NO ERROR one is because the programmer was an idiot and didn’t use the #defined value for NO_ERROR.

    if(operation()==0)
    doGoodThings();
    else
    perror(“operation”);

    should’ve used:
    if(operation==NO_ERROR)

    Yay for Catastrophic Failure errors :D

  32. Rob Schultz January 11th, 2008 at 8:01 am

    My favorite one that I ever experienced was “Keyboard not connected. Press F1 to continue”.

    It made my day!

  33. Web design and development forum January 11th, 2008 at 8:02 am

    These are funny, especially the ‘error – the operation completed successfully.’

    moving swiftly on…

  34. Andrew January 11th, 2008 at 9:07 am

    pretty funny. I was working on a client-site windows machine and I decided to empty the recycle bin. It said that the recycle bin emptied, but the icon showed that it still had files in it. I tried to empty it again and I got an prompt that said “Are you sure that you want to delete ‘windows’?” I thought to myself, “don’t tempt me Microsoft.” Unfortunately, I did not get a screen-shot and I still regret it.

    Good stuff though.

  35. Maddman January 11th, 2008 at 9:09 am

    One of the best wasn’t exactly an error message, but one I saw trying to shut down a unix mainframe during a power outage. After issuing the shutdown command, I had to go through these confirmations

    “Are you sure you want to shut down? [Y/N]”

    “Are you REALLY REALLY sure you want to shut down? [Y/N]”

    “Are you willing to bet your life that you REALLY want to shut down? [Y/N]”

    Also while complining a Linux kernel

    “Kernel Panic. This really should never happen.”

    Not an error, but when I got a new laptop a few years back, it had XP, and thus, Internet Explorer. I immediately went to download Firefox, and it told me that it thought the file might be unsafe. I know it was because it was an executable, but IE reporting that Firefox was unsafe was a tad amusing.

    wtf

    those guys r noobs

  59. jo September 17th, 2008 at 8:58 am

    if you avn’t realised, the one about the keyboard not being plugged in, press f1 to continue is comletely normal. it just means that when you av plugged it in you need to press f1. DUH!! the same for the one about the mouse not being plugged in. the last one is fake as it spelt illegel wrong and spelt it illigal. microsoft always spells that word right. and finally the one about the recycle bin being put in the recyle bin is easy. all you av 2 do is make a shortcut of the recycle bin, call it recycle bin and then put the short cut into the real one. vwalaa!!!!!! easy peasy. so most of these are normal or fake. (it is very easy to fake a picture of a windows error box!)

  60. Chino September 25th, 2008 at 7:41 am

  62. Sgt. Firestorm January 29th, 2009 at 7:40 pm

    Ok guys, you wanna REALLY laugh and no I swear to god I’m not making this up… The ultimate error that made me leave Vista is this… Windows has encountered an error with Windows Vista and needs to close. Please contact your system administrator for more information. This particular error happened to me when I bought a pre-SP1 laptop and it only happened once and was with a blue screen. And as I said, I SWEAR, that error is real and it really did happen as I had to restore my whole computer after it because Vista wouldn’t start.
